On the cover of the latest Down Under Quilts was a lovely pink and yellow quilt by Erica Spinks called Sunshine on Roses. I thought the pattern would work well with my I Spy scraps. I used two blues as you can see and with some quick strip piecing and lots of prints I put this top together. Everything was from the stash, so it's a free quilt I'm putting some borders on it now. I was going to go around the center with light blue and then dark blue because that was easy. Fortunately some other ideas popped into my head before I cut the border and I'm trying something a little different. Photo next posting.

That looks like fun quilt, great for a kid's room. How many packs of charm squares did you use?
Good question Jennie. I was keen to use up leftovers from the last I Spy I made, so these squares are small. The square pieces are cut 4.5 inch square and the rectangles are 4.5 x 2.5. I had the usual dilemna - I was tired of making small blocks before I had enough for the top; hence the need for borders.
So, I've drafted a new top on EQ5. Use three 12 packs of 6.5 inch squares. Choose 9 charms with a small print and cut each in half; choose another 18 to leave whole; and save 9 for your next quilt.
For the frames you'll need 1.2 metres of dark blue and 2 metres of light blue. Cut crosswise into 2.5 inch strips. Frame the whole squares with light blue; frame the half squares with dark blue. Use the photo as a guide to assemble, and you should finish with a quilt top about 130 cm by 160cm.
